Back To School Schedule
We began working on getting back into the swing of things about a week before school started. Our back to school schedule has been working out very well. My daughter has no trouble waking up and getting ready for school.
There has been a change in her school hours though. She is in school about a half an hour longer than last year. That doesn’t sound like much, but it throws off our home schedule, especially dinner time. We’ve come up with one solution where she eats her snack while doing some of her homework. We look over what is required and chose something that is easy for her to do.
I sit with her while she’s eating and work with her a bit. Then she’s on her own with her homework. I do check it of course. Next we work together on some chores which help her calm down after her day in school. After dinner, she has plenty of time to play, talk on the phone and read. Bedtime is a set time every night.
Having a schedule makes school time easier and calmer for parents and children. No more yelling in my house!

I dont have any young children at home, however my 3 granddaughters live with us and the twins are going into grade 11 and oldest is going to college.
The twins were very excited to go back to school. I guess once summer ends, they get bored and want to see their school chums and partake in their schools extra curricular activities.
I have never had a problem of getting them up in the morning and they too have a set bedtime so they are well rested for the next morning.
My beef is the amount of homework they bring home on a daily basis. I think 3 hours is ridiculous. I can understand having some homework but come on now. Alot of this could have been done during school hours.
I think everyone, especially families, work better when there is a schedule. Otherwise, it is utter chaos.

We also have a daily schedule during the school week. It was no problem getting her back in the “school groove.” Girlie Girl is in high school this year, but I find it’s even more difficult to get her going in the morning and helping her organize her work. The big issue we really have is the number of school projects this year. Every week she has at least two projects in addition to her regular class work and homework. It’s crazy. Also, every other Tuesday they have either a late start or an early release. And they have Friday off every 3 weeks. Who thinks this up and why? The reduction in class hours makes them run over the regular summer vacation time. This year they didn’t start summer vacation until the first week of June and returned to school August 16. Remember when break was from Memorial Day to Labor Day? Oh, well. Thank you for posting, I’ll give the snack and guided study a try.
