I put mine in a bowl and waited for it to melt a bit. Because they are whipped instead of thick like regular yogurt, it tasted just like the kind you get at the ice-cream shop. Yummy!

I value children’s education, therefore I value teachers. After reading Educating Esme: Diary of a Teacher’s First Year by Esme Rajii Codell, my admiration and appreciation for teachers and their work and passion grew even more. Written in diary form, I learned why Esme became and teacher and what her actual days in the classroom were like. Make no mistake, Madame Esme is one of the most zealous teachers I’ve had the pleasure to learn about.
Madame Esme? Yes, that is what Esme expects her students to call her to the chagrin of her principal. In the Chicago public school where she taught that first year, the students were commonly beaten by their parents, hungry, and lived in poverty. Expecting anything of them was, well, unexpected. But Madame Esme held high expectations for every one of her students.
Her unique teaching techniques brought out the best in her students. She used her creativity to inspire her students to learn to love reading, to get over the hurdles they had in certain subjects or even behavioral issues and to believe in themselves.
There is humor and sadness, feelings of futility and motivation, a call to action to parents, the government and others on behalf of teachers and heart warming stories that you won’t forget, all in Educating Esme. I highly recommend this book for parents, for people considering entering teaching, novice and experienced teachers and anyone that has an interest in education in the US.
This is the expanded edition for the 10th anniversary, which includes a Foreward by Katherine Paterson, author of Bridge of Terabithia, Afterward by Jim Trelease, author of The Read-Aloud Handbook and “Advice for Aspiring and New Elementary School Teachers”.

We’ve been seeing the Back To School sales already and got my daughter’s school supply list at the store the other day. It won’t be long until school is back in session and that means weekly Spelling Tests. I work diligently with my daughter’s schoolwork so studying for Spelling is something we do together frequently. She’ll be going into fifth grade and I’m trying to get her to work on her own more. I’m also trying to help her lessen test anxiety.
SpellQuizzer is a spelling program that helps children master their spelling and vocabulary. I’ve taught my daughter to use it already with her spelling words from fourth grade. Then I spoke the words using a silly voice into our computer microphone. When my daughter listened to them, she not only had a laugh, but she actually did some homework during the summer!
SpellQuizzer is spelling software not just for students that need help learning their spelling and vocabulary words, it is for students who want to work independently, parents who need or want a break from the spelling nightmare practice and students who want to improve their spelling too.
For those that need help, they can practice as often as you see fit on their own. Then you can test them once or twice a week. For children who like to work on their own, they can set up their lists and even record the words by themselves.
If you don’t have the time to review spelling with your child all the time, this does the trick. And for children who want to go beyond what is taught in their class, there are pre-made spelling lists you can download and use from the SpellQuizzer website. My Review:Â The program was quick and simple to download. Once my daughter and I began to use it, it was easy to learn and we got the hang of it right away. Since my daughter likes using the computer for anything, I know that she will study her spelling using SpellQuizzer without any complaints. Once the program was up and running, she ran to get her old spelling words and worked with them for over an hour at one sitting. I’m looking forward to her using SpellQuizzer this coming school year. I know this will lessen her test anxiety because while working on her own, she is able to see that she is capable of getting her spelling words correctly.
